Overview

Flint is aimed to address the financial literacy challenges faced by young adults in Canada through a comprehensive approach involving research, education, engagement, and accessibility. The goal was to develop educational resources that simplified financial concepts in a user-friendly manner. This involved creating content that was easily understandable and accessible to diverse audiences, ensuring inclusivity.

Engagement strategies were implemented to encourage users to interact with the educational resources regularly. This included the use of notifications and reminders to keep users engaged and motivated to improve their financial literacy.

The Goal
Flint’s goal is aimed to empower young adults with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed financial decisions and improve their financial literacy. Long term prospects include defining key performance indicators (KPIs) to track the impact of the project on increasing financial knowledge and engagement among young adults in Canada over a period of time.

Context
My role was conducting user research, synthesizing data, and identifying key pain points and opportunities. Which contributed to my development of the Personalized Milestones function to personalize and tailor the app to best suit user needs.

Part 1

The Challenge

Young adults face financial challenges due to a lack of financial literacy education, which limits their ability to make informed decisions. Users have diverse financial goals and a desire to learn financial literacy, but they lack guidance on how to achieve these objectives and where to begin.

This raises the question of how to help students and young adults learn to manage their money effectively and achieve financial goals through financial literacy. Many young people feel overwhelmed by the pressure to save and invest but are intimidated by the complexities of financial literacy.

Takeaways

Financial decisions are often stressful and overwhelming so creating a solution for young adults and myself through this project has helped me learn how best to ideate and design a tangible solution to leverage existing financial knowledge. The research we conducted greatly informed our design decisions moving forward.

Collaboration
The integration of the education section was something that we arrived through collaborative effort and teamwork. It taught me that working in a group increased the potential for great ideas and leveraging existing ones through meaningful discussion and brainstorming.
